Shoulder and collar bone injuries top accident charts

It is often reported that knee ligament injuries are the most common ski accident. However, our analysis of injuries from last season shows a surprising 26% of claims resulted from shoulder and collarbone injuries, closely followed by knees at 20%, leg injuries 14% of claims and wrists 10%. Head injuries accounted for only 3% of claims. Whilst helmet use has increased massively in recent years, helmets do not stop injury although they do reduce the severity of a knock to the head by an estimated 50%.
We attribute the increase in shoulder and collarbone injuries to the growing availability of snow parks with artificial jumps and half pipes. Fitness, strength and ability are strong influences on the likelihood of being injured. Getting fit before you ski or board is as important as wearing a helmet
